I have debt in the Uk, around 22,000 from my business from not paying my tax. i now live overseas, can I still claim bankruptcy? if not what are my options?

Hi

you can petition for Br in the UK for UK debts provided that :

You have lived in the UK within the last 3 years
You don't live in the EU ( excluding Denmark)

The process is to complete the court forms and petition at the High Court in London. The fee for this is £507( it may increase after April 2009)

If you are unable to attend yourself you can have a family member, friend or professional representative petition on your behalf however they would need to have legal authority to act on your behalf.

This is done by submitting a Lasting Power of Attorney which gives your representative to act for you. These cost £150 to have authorised.
