My wife would really like to keep her car, it isn't worth more than £2.3k (could even be less than 2).

Now she is moving back into her mums in a couple of months (we are seperating) and both going BR in about 3-4 months. She could probably get public transport to work. However her nana who she sees at least 2/3 times, a week has terrible arthritis and works with a stick, has a stair lift at home etc. My wife often takes her shopping and visits her granda who is in a home.

Based on this, do you think she could keep the car?

Also what is the maximum petrol allowance allowed for a single working person?

As always, thanks in advance for any help.

Hi

don't think the letter from her employer would help much - you might find that the OR allows her to buy the car if she wants to and you could then drive it

Thanks for the reply Paul.

So basically if anyone can get to work on public transport then it would be hard for them to keep a vehicle?

What about if her work gave her a letter to say she needs her own transport to visit their partner company?

Hi

If the OR believes your wife could get to work easily without a car she will need to make a strong case to keep it for the benefit of someone else.

With regard to the petrol useage, there is no fixed allowances. The best way to calculaye the useage is to keep the receipts for a month and log the mileage.
In theory Mrs Baxi will have 3 months worth of data to confirm her position.
