Does anyone know if 6 months up front rent is the norm for discharged bankrupts?

Hi Pix,

We moved a few months back and we found it very much depenent upon the Agents.

We found one who even before we went BR and we were supposedley a "normal" applicant refused us renting as our business did not make enough profit - they used an agency called MARAS (I think) which cost us over £100!!!

They wanted 6 months up front or a guarantor.

The Agents we did go with only need a reference from a friend and our bank to say we could afford the rent.

Having said that our 6 months are up soon and we will have to tell the Agent we are BR soon to.

I'm hoping that as a reliable tennant we can carry on after BR on normal terms as 6 months up front will be impossible.

Good luck with your search.

Tim

Unfortunately there is no straight answer to this question - i have had mamny clients who have had no problems what so ever and are treated no different to any other 'renter' but sometimes clients have been asked for 6 months upfront - this is all due to the individual letting agency - there are not rules for this sort of thing
