Have just been reading through my mobile phone contract and it states that if I become BR they will terminate. Should I list them on my I&E as a creditor for the remaining costs of my contract?
Thanks as always

Hi all,

Just to add we're with Orange too and have heard nothing from them since we went BR 5 months ago. Still have both our contracts with them and no probs so far!

Will keep our fingers crossed!

Hi Folks

I went bankrupt in October and still have my contract with orange. Hope they don't cut me off as I need it for my business and this number is advertised in yellow pages. So I will lose business unless they let me keep my same number and move to PAYG. Gonna keep a low profile and keep my fingers crossed that they don' cut me off.

My hubby has a Vodafone contract, he did not tell them he was bankrupt,he just kept paying the monthy direct debit and he got to upgrade his phone too and got a better call plan.

I've heard of people being disconnected by Vodafone, but I've still got my phone, and they allowed me to upgrade while I was still BR.

20 IPA payments made, 16 to go - on the home straight!

It is so annoying when they all treat people differently.

With things like mobiles, as long as you have maintained your payments and not had any problems, I really can't see why they can't let you keep your contract. I'm sure they have more problems with people who have good credit ratings than those of us who've done something about it.

My contract is up in August - be interesting to see if they let me upgrade. I don't think they credit checked me last time as I was told yes straightaway and I was in a DMP at the time.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time

Thats why is was so annoyed with Orange Kallis - as i was not in debt, didnt add it to my soa (as i had already checked with them if i could keep it), however they found out and blocked to bloomin thing. uckily i get a better deal with PAYG now as long as i put a set amount of credit on per month.

The same thing happened with an Abbey account i had (again not in debt) was told i could keep it then it got closed down.

It never seems to be the same rules for 2 people, would be easier if it were.

I'm with O2, and even though I'm in an IVA and not BR, it does state in their T&C that they can terminate for either.

I've never told them and my contract is still running and I've had no problems with them.

I think your doing the right thing Leah - I even made a call to the pre br to check i could keep my phone and the initial answer was yes....xx

I too am with Orange, never been in debt with them but think I'll put it on I&E in case. No nasty surprises that way.

Thanks All

Hey Leah

I just wanted to add that i was with Orange and not in any debt, however as soon as they found out about my br they blocked my phone and subsequently sent me a final bill. Luckily i was able to add it to my debts afterwards.

I didn't declare my mobile phone contract as I wanted to keep it and I didn't owe them any money. They never disconnected me and I've still got the same contract.

I would - that way you can take out a pay as you go phone (allowance for Inc & Exp £40 per month) and save yourself being tied into high contract costs. Unless of course you wish to continue the mobile phone - many people continue to use their contracts. So long as they are not listed on your creditors, they are unlikely to cancel the contract, (nor be aware of the bankruptcy). Personal choice really
