Well this must be the worse credit card supplier I know, I have been with them for years and due the fact that my husband has financial difficults which you might have read about in other topics, I decided to write to them and advise them that though I am not in arrears with any payments, it was probable it was going to get a bit more difficult to meet the payments. I got a reply from them today, asking me cut up the card and any cheques and return them to MBNA, no mention of contacting Payplan, CCCS or CAB. I haven't used the card in months and my payments have always been on time, even though I have only paid the minimum payment. I will not be returning the card, it has already been cut up and the cheques shredded but I am unhappy with sending a cut up credit through the post. I was surprised at their attitude, I appreciate they have a business to run but I think they could have been a bit more helpful. When I wrote the same letter to the Halifax they came back with companies to contact for help and told me to keep paying the minimum payment if I could if not make a token payment and thanked me for letting them know the situation.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to be honest with some of these companies.

Sorry Paul I might have mislead you, the CAB have not written to my creditors yet, they are going to do so once they have done the I&E, as my out goings are exceeding my incomings. I took it on myself to write to my creditors even though I have not defaulted on any payments yet but it is becoming a struggle every month to make sure they are paid especially as my husband's income has dropped due to lack of commission so most of my salary pays the household bills

I have no idea why the CAB advise them that there MIGHT be a problem either.

I am sure that MBNA would have picked up on the problem relatively quickly after you had missed a payment

I have just received another letter from MBNA advising me my account is up to date, (like I didn't already know that) but also advising that if my I do not maintain my contractual payments it would result in my account beinf registered with a Credit Reference Agency. They then go on to advise me that if I wanted to a reduce payment I would have to send them an I&E at the same pointing out to me that any kind of reduced payment will have a negative impact on my credit file.

Is it neccessary for me to reply to this as the CAB are already on the case?

To be honest I am beginning to wish I had never bothered to contact my credit card companies advising them that it was looking likely in the near future that I might have difficulties to meet the payments, perhaps I should just have stopped paying them instead of being honest.

None of payments are behind to Credit Card Companies and never have been in all the years I have held them, all my household bills are up to date as well, even though this month is the first month I have had to go into over draft to pay bills for the first time in the last 5 years and we all know what a knock on effect that has, even though I have a couple of small investments which mature in the next 2 months which will make life easier if hubby does not lose his job. If he does lose his job, I will use the money to keep the roof over our heads and pay the CC companies a token payment as the Halifax advised me to me do.

It so very hard to know what to do for best and getting snotty letter from MBNA certainly do not help, I really am being to wish I had never notified them of my impending position.

MBNA is an American Bank and does thing their way....creditors are not friendly, how can they be if you own them money....their apparent understanding is a ploy whilst they how to deal with people in the long term. Their job is make themselves rich at others expenses. All their philanthropic activities are just hog wash that hide their true guises...getting people on debt and create a dependency culture from you....the world got wealthy by creating and cranking up corporate and personal debt, more than the real money (MO) can speak for...

Some creditors are extremely understanding and helpful through difficult times - after all you have paid through the good times and they have made money from selling you money.

Other companies are a little different and some even site US regulations even though the operate in the UK and these regulations have no bearing on how you operate your account here.
