Posted - 24 February 2009 : 11:15:43 HI, Im a single mum working a part time job, and since leaving my partner i have debts totalling about 15ooo that i cant afford to pay, my income is covering all the basics plus i get child support and have just applied for housing benefit which calcualted shows i could get an extra 50 pounds a week. the best option for me is bankruptcy, but i rent my house thru my job, and there is a clause in the contract about bankruptcy, but my rent goes straight from my wages each month so im never in arrears, what do you think i should do, can anyone offer advice please, thanks |

Posted - 24 February 2009 : 14:10:28 Could you list all the debts on a piece of paper and add them up - the only reason i ask is that if they come in at under £15k a Debt Relief Order DRO(which is to come into effect from 6th April) would be a far better option for you.
Check with your personnel section whether doing a DRO instead of a bankruptcy may be a better alternative as your home is attached to your job
Unfortunatley if your debts are over £15k bankruptcy would be the solution but please check with your personnel section before making the decison to file, you may find that they would look sympathetically on your situation and you may not loses your job and home.
