Posted - 24 March 2009 : 07:28:41 I declared bankruptcy in middle of Feb and have since applied for housing benefit to help with rent. Haven't heard anything yet but I live in hope. The question is if I am awarded housing benefit do I need to declare it to the OR and is it likely to affect whether I am issued with an IPO.
Many thanks
Shirley

Many thanks for your help, I didn't have any disposable income when I declared bankruptcy and in fact my expenditure was higher than my income so maybe it will be fine. Well at least I hope so

yes all benefits must be declared but not all are taken into consideration in terms of an IPA / IPO. Housing benefit is included. Obviously therefore however much a successful claim amounts to will free up that same amount of your other income and thus producing an equal amount of a disposable income increase.
