Thanks Paul,

I have an address in the UK (my parents) and all of my creditors have this address as well as my bank account. I have completed the 'Contact Us' form on your website so hopefully I'll be able to speak to someone about this later today and see where I stand.

Hi

If you have moved to Germany you cannot come back to the UK to petition for Br here.

You either need to have the UK as you permenant address - with a temp job in the EU - orbe living here and travelling to Germany for the job but back home at weekends etc.

Thanks for the quick responses and, as usual, this has led to more questions

I have been living in Germany since August 2008 so the 3 year rule shouldn't be a problem but:

- Would I have to petition from Germany?
- If so would this affect my German credit rating?
- Would I still need to pay my IPA payments from a UK bank account?

Thanks

Hi

it needs to be the High Court.

You also need to make sure you qualify to petition from abroad. Some EC countries require you to petition there . You also have the 3 year rule

I'm pretty sure it has to be the High Court if you are living abroad.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time

Hi,

Just a quick follow up question for someone else in the same position - would I need to petition at the High Court or would it be at the County Court where I was last resident in the UK i.e. if I was resident in Manchester and took out most/all of the loans/cards there would I still need to petition at the High Court?

Thanks

Hi

you can petition for bankruptcy if you live abroad.

However you need to do one of the following.

1. fly back and petition yourself in the High Court
2. Prepare a Lasting Power of Attorney and have it authorised by the Office of the Public Guardian ( £150) and have a friend / relative "stand in" for you at the High Court.
3. Hire a professional company to do this for you

You also have to have been living in the UK within the last 3 years and there are some countries which you would need to petition there rather than back in the UK ( i.e. most of the EU )
