Posted - 01 April 2009 : 12:24:31 I have a mortgage with Bank Of Scotland.
I am trying to avoid bankruptcy and would like a breathing space to sort myself out.
We are having problems making ends meet at the moment that has been made worse by the fact that my wife has had her hours cut by nearly half and I am self employed and suffering a bit by the effects of the credit crunch.
I contacted BOS to ask for a payment holiday and was told that I could apply for up to 6 months holiday.
They sent the form to me and on the form it asks why you want the payment holiday. I just put, as above. I received a letter today to say that they were unable to provide a payment holiday without any explanation.
I rang them and the lady just said that they would not grant a payment holiday due to the fact that we were experiencing financial difficulties. Bearing in mind that I have never missed a payment and that i was truthful with my reason for the holiday, I was more than slightly gobsmacked at this. She told me that payment holidays were for those people who want to say go on holiday or need to buy a car or something and not for those experiencing debt problems. She wasn't very helpful and just suggested that i speak to the Collections department for assistance.
Has anyone else experienced this?
