Hi, My wife and I are now living in Canada(just under a year) abd we are going to have to file for bankruptcy. We have put it off because we are worried it might have an effect on applying to become permanent residents. Roughly how long does it take for the bankruptcy to go through? One of the creditors now has our Canadian address, are thet likely to sell it to a Canadian debt agency straight away or contact us first. Once the bankruptcy is in effect does it close a debt that has left the country?
Thanks

Hi Jerry

If you contact Paul Johns at Reviva (left hand side of the screen under experts) he is well used to sorting out clients who have emigrated - you would be in safe hands, and he comes highly recommended (and not just by me!)

Firstly welcome to the forum
If you go BR there will be no debt collectors to worry about, but your assets like property cars etc will become the ORs.
To go BR from abroad you need to either come back or give someone lasting power of attorney and then they can process the BR through the court in London.
It may be worth having a chat / e-mail with one of the experts through the link on the left hand side of the page.
