Posted - 07 April 2009 : 21:25:35 Hi apologies re the karate claim, I really am getting old!!! The £16 is fine as 1 out of school activity is claimable per child provided the cost is moderate. This is allowed on the basis that your child should not suffer unnecessarily for events beyond her control.
You most certainly can claim for meals at work over and above the housekeeping claim, which I see is pretty much spot on as far as allowances go for the 3 of you, in the same way as school meals are claimable. £1.50 per day and therefore £30 per month is a modest claim.

Posted - 07 April 2009 : 17:39:12 Hi John both my wife and myself are going bankrupt, The Karate is only £16 and not £60.
I thought that my meals at work should be taken out of the money that we use our weekly groceries for. Are you allowed extra so as to not have to take food to work with you.
Thanks |

Posted - 07 April 2009 : 15:36:47 Hi
As per your post your DI is £116. However the CB is not deemed income and thus DI is reduced to £36. In this scenario an IPA would not be appropriate.
However you should ensure all expenditures are claimed. I note from your expenditure list there are no claims for meals at work ; Dry Cleaning or Pet Food/Insurance if any of these should apply.
I do think some allowance should be made against the karate lessons but not sure if all £60 would be. (Suspect £20 would be ok).
It's also worth noting that if only you are declaring bankruptcy, and your wife is not, then her contribution to the household expenses may conceivably be £Nil if her income is eaten up by other expenditure outside of those claimed that do not relate in any way to you as the bankrupt.

Posted - 07 April 2009 : 14:12:05 The majority of us have buried our heads in the sand at some point, I struggled and wouldn't admit that I was in trouble until it was too late. Now I have to live with that for the rest of my life but the way that I see it is that I have my whole life ahead of me now.
Once I am discharged in August 2009 and finished my IPA payments I can start to live my life and not worry about debt. It has made me realise that I never ever want credit again and in all honesty, I don't need it. For the first time in god knows how many years I have managed to save some money!!!!
Just be positive, stop thinking about what you should have or shouldn't have done, think about the future. A happy debt free future!!!
Wishing you all the best!

Posted - 07 April 2009 : 14:00:25 Well I personally would, they can reduce it if they feel its too high. Put down what you would actually spend, if you do that then you have a good case to argue any amount they reduce.
Like I said I was allowed £30 a month for a single person.
I take it you haven't got a vehicle?

Posted - 07 April 2009 : 13:55:22 Thanks Mazie, our insurance and and water rates are in with our rent. £10 a month does seem a bit low for dentist for the 3 of us do you think its worth putting more |

Posted - 07 April 2009 : 13:52:47 Hi mick1972a
Just had a quick look through your expenditure etc. I was the only one who went bankrupt yet I was allowed £30 dentist. Not sure whether you would be allowed the childs karate lessons.
You haven't mentioned household insurance or water costs. Remember put down everything you actually spend, they can only say no but fingers crossed they will agree to it. Once its been accepted you can't add things so best to be certain of your costs beforehand.
