Posted - 23 April 2009 : 22:37:36 Hi, i work in an independent retail shop. My boss is not paying any suppliers and is taking thousands from the safe every week without banking anything. This week we just about got paid due to the good will of the bank making up the shortfall in wages. He has recently left his wife and is living the chamapagne lifestyle with his new girlfriend, on the shop takings. All the staff are fed up as we have been told by the employee who makes up the wages that there wont be enough money to cover wages when he raids the safe again of all the retail takings. Surely what he is doing is illegal and when we are wageless next week because of it, who should we approach. Also, are we within our rights to take our wages directly from the till? We are in Northern Ireland.Thanks.

I am really sorry to hear of your situation which is obviously very diffucult.
It certainly sounds what he is doing is wrong although perhaps not illegal.
Please don't take the wages straight from the till as this would be theft and is obviously a criminal matter.
