Will my bank account be frozen automatically or is this decided at court. I only use my account for monthly payments for Tx credits income and DD for bills. My maintenance from my ex is paid into it but nothing else, this is all money I need for living expenses.

I had the same as Lynne.i. I opened a NW basic Step account just prior to bankruptcy. I listed it on the SOA but the OR assistant has said he has not interest in it. I also went into the bank and they said there won't be a problem. I will wait and see though because once the OR contacts them officially it may be a different story. I have no cheque book but I do have a Solo debit card with the account. All fine at the moment.

I went straight to the bank after court and told them that we had just been made bankrupt. We had opened this account with Nat West about 3 months prior to bankruptcy after receiving advice from business debtline. Our account was frozen from then but the staff were really nice and helpful and we were told to leave it with them and they would take advice. It has taken since 25th March until today to sort out but account has now been unfrozen and basically they have put us down to basic account. The only difference is we can no longer use cheque book, but we can use our solo card to pay bills etc.

Hi peach i was worried about my bank closing so opened a COOP cashminder account they were very friendly. I told them I was going BR and they were fine. Barclays also do a basic account and an online bank called Thinkbanking but they charge you £12 per month

Bank accounts are normally frozen once the OR contacts the bank to tell them you are BR. If you need it keeping open speak to the bank before you go BR to see if they will be able to do this. If the bank is one of your creditors then they will freeze it no matter what you say.

You could always open a Co-op basic account as this is 'BR friendly'.
