Posted - 07 May 2009 : 18:34:33 I currently live in the USA and when I left the UK I left a load of debt behind, I think probably between $15 and $20,000 but I'm not sure. I really would like to do something about it incase I ever want to return to the UK. Is there anything I can do from here?

Posted - 09 May 2009 : 14:46:17 Using a friend is much cheaper, but you would probably need to compensate them for their time and travel costs.
You will also need to work out your costs of flying back, accomodation & food costs in London and flights tend to be more unless you have an overnight stay.
For medium distance flights it is usually much cheapet to have someone handle the situation plus you bet the benefit of professional advice and representation as well.

Posted - 07 May 2009 : 18:41:47 If you have left the UK less than 3 yrs ago you can declare BR within the UK. Companies such as Reviva UK and Myvesta specialise in assisting people living abroad declaring BR in the UK so you could give one or both a call.
The process would be to complete the 6.27 and 6.28 BR forms and fly over to the UK and petition at the RCOJ in London. The BR hearing would all be done in one day.
If you didn't want to come over to petition you could sign over the power of attorney to one of the companies I have mentioned and they would represent you in court. Obviously they would charge a fee for this and they can also assist you in completing the forms.
