Posted - 08 May 2009 : 13:20:11 My partner and I were declared bankrupt in February this year.
Our bank accounts have been frozen of course, and one of those accounts was a joint account my partner had with his ex but hadn't been used in a long time. Neither of them had bothered to close it.
My partners ex went shopping the other day and her card was refused. She rang the bank and was told her account had been frozen due to her connection with my partner. It was an account in her name only.
Can they do this, and how do we sort it out? She has been told by the bank that she will forever be linked to our bankruptcy, is this true?

They shouldn't freeze joint accounts, and especially if there is no longer a financial connection. His ex should contact the bank and inform them that she is no longer financially connected to him, and have him removed from the account, if she wishes to continue using it.
