Hi all. After much advice - probably too much advice - my husband and I are declaring bankrupt and have an appointment on 4th June. We have had the appointment for over 2 weeks now and time is really dragging, I just want it to be over. Im so worried and scared about the whole thing. Ive started to get letters and a few phone calls. I obviously still need to eat and pay household bills which are important and have been doing this. Although as I have no money have been using my credit card still for food. I feel really bad as am declaring bankrupt but cant survive at the moment. Any words of wisdom from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi, no, no date set, we are in a bit of a funny situation, we cannot afford the fee's!...and you are normal!!!.. its so easy to get into trouble with money, my wife was given a £5000 credit card from HSBC two years ago (She was not even working).. the last letter she got about the debt they were threatening prison!! (No Joke). its been a very stressfull 12 months, I will be glad to get everyone off our backs.., I sure the companys you owe money too are not loosing any sleep!
With my business I eventually ran up a 40k OD with my bank until I eventually had to close the company, there letters were enough to put anyone in an early grave, ie the last conversation with them over the phone I was told to re-mortgage my house to repay the debt!!...my reply was "Well I would, but because your bank has given me a CCJ I'm unable to borrow"....they are there own worst enemy sometimes!
Remember BR is there to protect you! from them!..no shame in it. Hope all goes well

Hi Fuddumpton and thanks for your words of wisdom. Do you have a date set yet? As I said we have had ours for over 2 weeks now and just want it to arrive so I can stop worrying and feeling sick about the whole ordeal. We have a 9.00am appointment so at least we wont be waiting around too long. We have 4 children and trying to act normal and not stressed is hard especially for the eldest two 10 and 8. I just wanna be normal again and live my life with my kids without worrying. I feel bad as Im sure it's my fault that we are in this situation aswell and feel Im going to be blamed when we go to court. Surely I could have prevented this somehow.
Thank you emdaz that makes me feel a whole lot better. I feel awful using my cards and getting myself into more debt - but I have no other way of buying things.

Concerned and worried - but not as much after these words of wisdom.

Thank you.

Hi ShellyAndrew76
I can understand, and believe me your not on your own!, myself and my wife are considering BR and feel we have no alternitive, we have two small children and are really worried about the house and what will happen.
On a positive note, my parents went BR in 1999 and lost nothing (ie personnal possesions) ... and at the end of day! they wont hang you! its only money!... what cheeses me off is when you get a knock at the door or a phone call, your treated and spoken to like a criminal.
I am sure you will be fine, you will look back in two years and im sure you will be glad you did it, chin up!
