They told mee when I last had an account with them that it was like the Electron without the electron badge on it, i.e online authorisations, it wont guarantee cheques etc.

The way they were talking they werent fans of it.

Saying that when I get discharged im going to try and open an account with them

As far as I know the only difference with a Lloyds basic visa debit is that you can't take money out of a Link cashpoint, only a Lloyds cashpoint.

Are there any other differences?

I will do. I hope I get one as if they give a full Visa debit card the account will be as good as any of the full accounts.

I bet it doesn't take them long to work through the cards.

You'll have to let us know if you get one.

They told me at the end of last week that they were going to automatically upgrade the cards for all existing accounts starting in July.

I'm going to wait and see what happens - if I haven't had anything by the end of July I'll give them a call. I presume they'll upgrade all the cards that are due to expire first and then work through the list. If that is the case I could have a long wait as mine aren't due to expire until 2011!

Sorry, I'm being thick - what can't you order from the Co-op?

I do notice that mor and more banks are asking whether you have been br or not.

Ive just spoke to coop and was told after 18 minutes that i should ring again in a months time as the system wont allow it to be ordered

The evolution bank is like thinkbanking but run by secure trust and barclays,

Think I will stick with Think

I just wasn't comfortable with someone else managing my money for me, and the call centre staff I spoke to didn't exactly fill me with confidence - when I could get through!

Whilst I can still get free banking, even though it is a very basic account, I will stick with the mainstream banks.

If they start charging me, I shall look around to see what is going at the time.

I Think the beauty with think is, that if a payment is taken early by Direct Debit then you dont get charged and they contact the company to get it referred to a better date

Thank you.

I think I'll stick with what I have for now - at least it doesn't matter if the payment changes!

You set the direct debits and standing orders up as normal. Your money gets paid into a salary account, and you have to phone Think (not as easy as you might think!) and tell them how much your bills are. They keep that amount back and the balance is transferred to your spending account.

It's ok if your bills are the same each month, but if it changes it could be a pain.

How does that work then Skippy? At least with my bank it's my money and I decide who gets paid and when!
