Posted - 08 June 2009 : 15:16:02 Just wondering when to open a bank account, I have contacted Coop about Cash Minder and told them that we are planning to go BR and would like to open a basic account with them, the Advisor said that it they will freeze the account for 24 hrs and I will need to ring them to make it up and running again.
My question is... Is it better to open an account now or after we filed for BR. I am just concerned that the essential Direct Debits wont get paid if accounts are frozen... on both our old accounts and this new account with Coop.
Any suggestion pleasE? Thanks

Our DD is spread through out the month so it is a bit tricky. I havent got a BR date yet. Im just planning ahead I guess so I want to know what to expect. Life has been a mess so want it to change and make sure everything is in order.

Posted - 08 June 2009 : 15:30:52 It is normally only the accounts that are listed on the SOA that are frozen. If you open the Co-op account now then provided you don't use it before you declare BR you don't need to put it on the SOA. Once you speak to the OR after declaring BR you can mention the account and they will say that they don't have an interest in it.
What date of the month are you declaring BR and what dates in the month are the DDs paid? What date is your salary paid?
Depending on the date you declare BR and the dates your DDs come out it might be a bit tricky. You could always contact the companies that the DDs go to and see if there is another method that you could pay them that month. If you explain that you are moving bank accounts then they should understand.
