Posted - 09 June 2009 : 13:20:12 I have a fulltime job but also work one weekend in two to provide extras for my autistic son.Would the OR look at this as disposable income and is it worth dropping this job now I cannot provide details of regular monthly expenditure for it as it changes month by month. Also is there a guide anywhere as to what is an acceptable amount to claim for outgoings i.e food, electricity etc. |

Any benefits you receive on behalf of your son ie DLA or carer's allowance/premium would not be included in your income calculation - as these benefits are given purely for the day to day care of your sone and not to be used to pay your debts. If there are any 'extra' costs such as increased laundry or activites done after school to assit your son you are able to cliam these as additional expenditure. Just claim what you think you require and provide a brief explanation - the OR will always try to accommodate any justfied additional expenditure

Remember though each OR office see things slightly differently there are guuides to amounts but I would say put the amounts you need and also details regarding your autistic son maybe with medical evicence to say the support he needs.
Best of luck

Posted - 10 June 2009 : 08:25:17 Thanks for the information, the link is particularly usefull although the figures do seem a bit out of touch given the price hikes in fuel and cost of living in general over the last couple of years. quote: Originally posted by nickm

There is a very rough guide of amounts that can be claimed for food, etc. at www.insolvency.gov.uk/DocumentLibrary/Policy/Excel/Household%20Expenditur.xls
If you worked a couple of weekends then the OR would also look at this is disposable income. Whether you should drop this job or not would depend on how much you earn. If this income took you above the threshold for an IPA then you would only get between 30% and 50% of this money yourself.
