I am in debt to the tune of £50,000 and have been advised Bankruptcy is the best way of moving forward, so I am. The forms are on their way. I have no assets. I have a low basic salary (£12,000) but it's a sales job so I make a different amount each month. What's the procedure with wages? Do my wages get paid to the OR and am I paid an amount according to my monthly expenditure? I'm a little hazy on this so any advice would be welcome.

A quite different matter is the fact that my girlfriend is Australian and I plan to join her out there at some point. I have spoken with the embassy and I know that bankruptcy will not affect my visa application. My question however, is what is the earliest point I could go to Australia? I presume it is not until I have been discharged, at the earliest. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help guys - much appreciated.

Only question mark seems to be over how long I have to wait before I could move to Australia. Guess that's a question for the OR. I can't imagine it will be met with a fourable response though...

You can fill the forms in online, it's fairly easy to do and you can submit them and print your 3 copies off that you need to take to court, you just have to go on insolvency website.

My wages have completely changed in the 3 weeks since I'v been made BR,and I was worried that they would go on higher ammount but on SOA, but at OR interview yesterday, she said note to worry it would be done on ongoing salary and just to send 3 wageslips in showing lower salary when I have them in August,so they do appear to be flexible.

Hi,

The OR will not have your wages, you will have informed him/her of your income. On what you tell them of income and expenditure it will be decided if you need to pay an IPA for three years. The rest of the money is yours. You will have a nil tax code for the remainder of the tax year though and that tax will have to be paid to the OR.

You will have no problem emigrating, although I don't know if you will have to wait until discharge.

Hopefully one of the experts will be along soon.
