I was declared BR today, was only in the judges chamber for 1 minute! He asked if i'd spoken to the CAB, i said yes. He read my reasons section, said he was granting my BR and that hopefully that would take the pressure of me.
Thing is i don't feel any different, any better. I thought i would as most people on here say they did.
I am worried about my wife as she will have to go BR but she doesn't want to even though she knows she has no choice. We are seperated now but i can't help blaming myself for it all.
I am also worried about the OR interview, how many documents does he need of you, is it 1 years statements or more? Does he need proof of every outgoing on your I&E form? |

Hi Baxi,
I know what you mean. I declared myself bankrupt in early March and to be honest, I didn't really feel any different and still felt stressed. I think it takes a while to finally sink in. 4 months down the line and I look back on it and wondered why I dithered so long before going bankrupt, although it is a big step to take, it was the best thing I could have done... for me anyway. Finances are still tight, but at least I know where I am and I don't have creditors ringing me up numerous times a day. I haven't had one single phone calls for months now, or any letters from the banks.
My interview with the OR seemed to be painless too. I only had a 30 minute phone call and they didn't even ask too many questions to be honest, just how I had spent the money and nothing too delving. I had to send them 6 months of statements for all the creditors, but they didn't ask for my payslips or anything like that. I am now paying a IPA, but even that is less than I had imagined. I would be in my element if I now received an early discharge, although I think that would be pushing my luck a bit too much as many of my debts were incurred through gambling. I haven't heard anything about receiving a BRO yet although I guess they have another 8 months to sort that out if they decide to. I sometimes wonder whether the interview with the OR is still to come as the phone interviews were so quick and simple. Part of me is somehow not convinced that is it, but hopefully it is.
Anyway, try not to worry anymore. You've done enough of that before going bankrupt. I'm sure in a few weeks, the reality will sink in and you'll be able to start your new debt free life.

I'm glad it went ok. Sometimes it takes a little time to sink in that you are debt free.
Don't blame yourself - you obviously had joint debts and your wife also has to shoulder some of the responsibility.
I don't think they need proof of every outgoing - I don't think that you are expected to produce receipts for weekly shopping for example.
However, I don't know what you will need to produce, so hopefully one of the experts will be along to assist with that.

Hi Baxi try to relax, I had to send in my last 3 months payslips, he never asked for any proof of outgoings and we just sent any statements of our debts that we had. He can always contact the companys and ask for anything he needs.
Just think no more hassle or worrying about paying bills.
