I applied for a Co-op Smart Saver account a little while ago but was turned down as I failed their credit check. When I phoned the Co-op the lady I spoke to couldn't understand why as I've been discharged for more than 6 months, so she lodged an appeal.

I logged in to the online banking this morning and I've now got a savings account!

It seems their criteria is that for a savings account is that you have to be discharged for more than 6 months, and for a full current account the BR has to have dropped off your credit record.

I'm not worried about the current account as the Cashminder does everything I need, but I'm pleased about the savings account.

Thanks Skippy they asked for the discharge letter when I am discharged, when I opened my second cashminder account, they said that they still have the fact of me going for an IVA on their system and are waiting for the OR to contact them but the acknowledge my old debt with them are dead

If you're not planning on staying with the Co-op then I probably wouldn't bother, but it's up to you. Why have they asked for it?

If you're going to send an original then make sure you get it back as I have heard of banks not returning them.

The only thing they asked me was how long I'd been discharged, and they didn't ask for any proof.

Thanks Skippy I will do, did they ask you for a copy of the letter or the certificate of discharge, they asked me to send it in once discharged so they can keep it on file.

Im still going to try Lloyds though once discharged.

Make sure you give it at least 6 months before you apply as the lady I spoke to checked with the lending department and they won't consider you before that.

Well done Skippy

I think I will be trying that too once I am discharged.
