Today i have opened a barclays bank account. I thought i could only have their basic cashcard account, but having put all my details in the computer, and telling her i was about to become bankrupt, she said i could have a normal account, with a debit card, not just a cash machine card. She also said this account shouldn't get frozen when my other one does. I hope she's right! I'm taking my forms to court Monday the 6th. Do i have to tell the OR about this account, before or after court, and will they find out, if i dont say anything? Has anyone else opened an account with Barclays before going bankrupt?

Yep, the best option is to open a Co-op account and transfer the DDs/income moved to this account. Once you have been declared BR you can check if the Barclays account is still open and if it is you could use one account as a savings/bill payment account and the other as your normal account.

You should be ok with the Co-op.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time

Oh dear, so confused! dont want to get DDs and my income changed to this account, if its going to get frozen as well! Looks like i will have to open a coop account, just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunately I think you will find this account will be frozen. We did exactly the same before going BR, though we did not actually tell Barclays, we did say we wanted basic account, with no credit checks (kind of gave it away) When we went BR, went into branch to advise, and they said account would be frozen, which in due course it was. The explaination they offered was that the computer system automatically offers the best available account, there is no where to note 'future bankrupt' on system.
We opened a Co op account after BR, and have had no problems with this account.

Strange that you were able to open a non-basic account even though you mentioned you were going BR. Mention this account to the OR once you have been declared BR and then there is less chance of it being frozen.
