Posted - 13 July 2009 : 22:00:30 Hi Everyone,
Both my husband and I have gone bankrupt. My question is, are we allowed £99 each of disposable income or £99 between us before an IPA would start?
Thanks,
Poodle! |

Posted - 14 July 2009 : 10:54:49 Hello,Question for jane.l, hope you don't mind me asking but, did you husband get an IPA through a nil tax code on his wage?? as our circumstance is similar and thats whats been arranged for my hubby!! x |

Posted - 14 July 2009 : 09:58:24 When we went bankrupt, hubby was working but I wasn't so hubby's wage was the whole household income, plus child benefit for 2 children, we have 3 but one is too old for CB, she is at Uni.
There was not enough surplus for an IPA at that point, but the OR (Blackpool office, hope they have improved somewhat) told me to go and try to claim some benefits so they could take an IPA out of hubby's wage. I tried but am not entitled to anything |

Posted - 13 July 2009 : 22:22:12 Hi Poodle, They look at your total household income and work out which one of you earns which percentage. Then they work out your percentage of the household expenses too and also your own DI in the same way. In essence you are two separate bankruptcies. They then look at each of you and if each of you has a DI of more than £99, you could both get an IPA. For my hubby and me, as he earns more than me, he's got an IPA but I haven't. I found it complicated too and hard to get an answer to at the time, but this is how it worked out in the end.
Hope that helps a little!

Posted - 13 July 2009 : 22:15:34 Each, but bear in mind that the joint expenditure is split pro rata with who earns the most. For example if you earnt £2,000pm and your husband earnt £0pm and you were left with £150pm surplus this would result in a £75pm IPA for you. Alternativly if you each earned £1,000pm and had the same outgoings you would have £75pm surplus each and so neither would pay an IPA |
