It's now 9 weeks since I went bankrupt and everything seems to be going ok, though still not heard about nil tax code, how long does it usualy take. What still worries me is my name going in local paper, if it was going to would it have been done by now,it was in london gazzette 4 days after BR.I know this is a silly thing to worry about but it really does bother me.Has anyone got any ideas how long it would take for it to go in locals if it was going to.

The responsibility to collect the tax lies with the OR. If they elect not to change the tax code that is down to them and the responsibility is not yours.

If however they have changed the tax code to NT and have not collected it I would recommend putting it to one side as they are likely to pursue it at some point.

Some OR's do not collect the tax if it is very low as it would not be worth the cost of the recovery.

That's what I thought.

It would be worth getting in touch with them to find out, so that you don't get an unexpected bill.

I know that there were some challenges last year when the agents for the OR who collect the IPA's and the TAX contributions changed from Clark Willmot & Clarke to Moon Beever.

I believe that most of these challenges are now resolved.

However the only time the OR doesn't bother changing the tax cose is if you petition for Br in Feb & March as there is insufficient time to change these before the end of the Financial year.

So did I. It's the first time I've ever heard of this and it might be worth double checking with the OR as you don't want a nasty surprise further along the line.

I always thought that you had a nil tax code regardless of how much tax you paid.

So if you only pay £150 a month like I would be, you wouldn't get nil tax code, never heard of this before maybe thats why OR never mentioned it, I just assummed she'd forgotten.

Jan is right, it's now at the discretion of the OR as to whether your name goes into the paper.

Mine went in a couple of weeks after I went BR, so the chances are yours won't now. Mine didn't go into the local free paper, but the one you pay for so the chances are a lot less people saw it.

From what I have read, it is down to the discretion of the OR, so it may be that some people have their name put into the paper, some don't.

It is more likely to happen if it is a company so that creditors can read this and if they are not aware, can put in a claim.

OR have stopped putting in local papers as it cost them . I am 2 months in BK and still no Nil Tax Code again that costs OR so apparently if tax in below £50 a week they dont bother which is the case for me
