Posted - 03 August 2009 : 10:42:28 Hi everyone As i said previously i've just been made bankrupt this week. One question i have is what are they looking for on bank statements? I'm so ridiculously nervous - i've never gambled or done anything stupid apart from live beyond my means, but i'm so worried they'll say that i'm in trouble because i bought this much shopping from tesco or shouldn't have bought this or that. The truth is i cant sleep, eat or function - this situation is pushing me over the edge - i almost wish i could return to my indebted state because at least at that point i felt i had some say over my life. I~ dont know if i can cope with this..... |

Also, in September i return to uni and so my income will only be £500 per month - therefore i will not pay tax anyway so will a nil tax code still be issued? |

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 22:01:29 Thanks so much Debtinfo.
Please can you clear this question for me too:-
1. Does the Nil tax code mean that my employer (i work for a very small company) will work out that i am bankrupt?
I just want it to be my secret.... So ashamed of myself |

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 21:23:49 hi helen, the OR sees million pound bankruptcys, fraudsters and criminals as well as the thousands of people who have just had an unfortunate change of circumstances or periods of uneployment. Believe me you have nothing to worry about. I would mention how worried you have been at the start of the interview and they will do as much as they can to put you at ease |

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 17:23:54 The prepaid card can be got at anytime as you are not credit checked for it. You load it with money and when the money runs out, then you can't use it until you load it again.
It won't improve your credit rating - this will be shot for the six years from the date of the bankruptcy.

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 16:51:57 Thanks Skippy - I appreciate your advice. Very scary time for me at the moment....
Hope you are doing ok though.
Also, im a little confused about the prepaid credit card thing? Is it something to get now bankrupt or after discharge and how does it improve your credit rating if at all? |

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 16:49:34 The OR honestly won't worry about the odd coffee or pizza, and they will understand that if you have a job interview you need to look smart.
I had a couple of large payments on my statements and like I said she never even mentioned them.

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 16:49:12 Hi Skippy - please see my post for Kallis3 - maybe you could add your thoughts too?
Also just for everyones knowledge, the IS at Reading Berkshire has confirmed to me today that they do not print bankruptcies in the local papers now unless extreme circumstances ie you dont know who you owe money to |

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 16:47:03 kallis3 many thanks - im hoping it will all go smoothly. Will I get into trouble for silly things like Costa coffee for like £2.50 or pizza hut once in a while for like £7?
I know I should have stayed at home and never spent a penny on anything other than Tesco value bread and baked beans, but when you are struggling with debt you still need to go out occasionally.
Also I had to go for a few job interviews recently so I bought a suit for these airline interviews - appearance is everything at these things - and im worried they'll tell me its unnacceptable to do any clothes shopping when you cant pay your bills. I must add this was before i knew I was contemplating BK |

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 16:46:26 Try not to worry about it. I know it's easier said than done, but the OR isn't trying to catch you out. Although I sent my credit card statements the examiner didn't even refer to them in my interview.

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 16:41:24 Hi,
Don't worry, they are just looking to see what you have spent it on. Normal spending should not be a problem as that is what got most of us into trouble.
I a sure you will be fine.
