Posted - 03 August 2009 : 13:05:08 Hi there all
I am desperately saving up to go BR(And to have some help from BR company) but this is going to take abit longer than I anticipated. I have now missed 3 DMP payments and the few letters I have received are stating 'further action' etc. I have had a RBS current account for well over 5 years and never had any problems even though two of my debts are with RBS and MINT.
So, should I open another unrelated current account until I have actually gone to court?? I am really worried that because two of my debts are linked to RBS they may get really vicious and take money from my accounts when they want??Specially now since I have defaulted on my agreed DMP payments/after paying them for 5 years. My salary gets paid into this account and this is everything I have...!? Heeeelp!!

Posted - 10 August 2009 : 16:29:52 I love it - no parking charges for going into town, no filling out paying in slips if I'm paying in cash and I'm doing my bit to keep the post office open!

I use the Post Office for my banking and I find it quicker and easier than when I used to go into a bank, especially as our local PO is 2 minutes walk away!

Hi again,
as I said yesterday, I opened a Cashminder account at the Coop (so did my wife and she is not BR). The staff are GREAT - you will have a visa debit or electron card - so you will look normal (If that is what you were worried about) - whatever normal is!!
You can use that card to pay bills dtaw cash etc etc - the only thing is - when theres no money - that means there is no money!! - No o/d facility, no cheque book, all for the best i say...
Good luck and start to live again - it is OK - but this forum, I have to say is wonderful and works because of people in our position - I get depressed and even scared - I am a grown up aged 57 that has had to change my life - once I had everything - now I have to be prudent. Richard
Hi again
Thanks so much for your advise. I will definately get a Coop account and all I want is a Visa debit card so I can pay for food etc. I have had a debit card without credit for years now and I love it. Like you say ; when theres no more in the account-thats it!! End of end of. However-since I have becaome somewhat an expert in money planning I know always excactly whats in my account and what I can use.
Maybe I can ask how much can you draw out in one transaction from a cash machine with the Coop? I have heard that the limit is £400...which would be great as my account now is £300. Reason for this question is I have no Coop bank to actually go into where I live, but once a month I need a one of withdrawal for rent and bills which is just over £600.

This will give you control of your money and then wait until you can petition. Any action the creditors take against you will fall away anyway on the granting of the order unless they manage to secure their debt against any of your assetts mainly property.
Hi everyone.
Thanks to all who have given me such great advise to this dilemma!! I will ring the Coop as soon as I get a moment alone and open the basic current acc I need. I get the feeling the only negative side is that I prob wount be able to have a normal debit card...but I just have to get used to that.
Onwards and upwards!

Posted - 04 August 2009 : 06:37:52 I agree, but I would use a paid for account as a very last resort.
Iknow I have better things to do with £12+ per month.

Sometimes bankruptcy assistance is useful depending on the complexity of your case, the team at Reviva Uk will provide an excellent services and advice, and sometimes some people feel that they need it as a reasurance that an expert is there.

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 21:29:23 also just to say that in most cases a bankruptcy assist co is not needed the forms are straight forward and there is lots of help on this forum, have a go yourself and if you cant do them think about paying for help. it costs nothing to have a go yourself first |

Posted - 03 August 2009 : 15:39:36 Hi
I endorse the suggestion to open a Cashminder Account at the Coop. I opened one after my BR petition and they were lovely and said that most of the BR cases in the city (Plymouth) were going to them for an account.
Good luck |
