Posted - 05 August 2009 : 17:09:37 Hi there Just about getting my head around all of this. Please can someone confirm if I can request that the OR takes all my tax at the end of the year from HMRC rather than issuing a NT code - I want to hide my BK from my employers |

Posted - 05 August 2009 : 23:06:28 My daer Helen,
First of all before Igo to be tell us you have smiled...
You are NOT alone - we are all friends
Consult your GP - you may require Cognitive Therapy or to see a psychiatrist. I am having both and it helps... It really does.
I phoned my GP yesterday afternoon - he said, Richard I get into the office at 5.00 am - come and see me tomorrow at about 7.30 - I did - he talked to me and LISTENED - His dad was a BR years ago.
This will not be an easy path - but as sure as I can be it gets better every day
Much love (My wife may be watchng again)

Posted - 05 August 2009 : 22:57:44 Hi Helen, Glad you feeling bit better but glad you still going to see GP. I went through such similar. Your GP hopefully will be really understanding. About the nil tax code, I would be inclined to just relax about it. I know you are in small company but still sure they do not need to know reasons. As I said yesterday I chose to tell them and it was weight off my mind but it is whatever you feel best for you. Data protection is a massive thing, even in a tiny company like yours, so if people gossip etc, they would be batting a very sticky wicket. Keep up the positive attitude Helen, sure things will get better for you. Rosie

Posted - 05 August 2009 : 22:40:12 Helen Honey relax.
Many have said do not worry abot the HMRC and your tax Code - amay reasons to be on a nil code - your employer does not have the right to know about the BR in most cases.
Only one word of cauthion is there an express covenant in the employment contact that requires your disclosure? In that cas a chat in cofidence with the head of HR initially... DO NOT unduly worry my dear - get some sleep and focus upon the end of your problems going over the next months.
Much love (My wife may not like that!!) xx |

Posted - 05 August 2009 : 22:27:41 When my business collapsed I went through a similar experience. Just be honest with your GP and explain what your symptoms are.
In my case I just needed some help at the start until I was able to get myself into the right mental state to cope with the stress.
When you hit the bottom the only way is up! |

Posted - 05 August 2009 : 18:26:07 Thanks both of you - I have to say im feeling a lot more optimistic today. I made myself not think about it last night and everytime i woke during the night i wouldnt let myself think about it and i had some good sleep last night :) this morning was the first morning in a week that I woke up without the feeling of doom all over me - so happy that im recovering mentally - i was scared of my severe depressive feelings this week, but they seem to be passing :) |

Posted - 05 August 2009 : 17:17:07 Hi Helen
There are many reasons why you have an Nil Tax Code NT These can be: Overpayment of tax in the previous year Going from self employed to employed Going from student to full time Many multiple jobs with 2 have a split code and one has an NT
Its only the Inland Revenue who know the reason why you have been placed on NT for that year and they just instruct your payroll department or HR if you dont have a payroll department they dont inform the reason why.
As I have said, though, in my previous post you may not get one at all, and its something to duscss with the OR, if they bring it up. I wouldnt worry.

Posted - 05 August 2009 : 17:12:21 Helen you dont request it it is just applied to your pay.
There are different reasons why you could get a NTC and bankruptcy is just one of them.
I think that it has to be done monthly though.
