Hi, I declared myself Bankrupt at Court today and the Official Receiver rang this afternoon to go over a few points. He assured me that my recently opened Alliance and Leicester Bank Account(Premier Direct)wouldn,t be frozen by him and it is only to be used for paying the Mortgage, Bills etc and has no overdraft facility or related debt. The OR did say that his office would have to advise the Alliance and Leicester of my Bankruptcy and they may or may not decide to freeze the account.Does anyone think I should immediateley take steps to open a Co op Cashminder account?or should I phone the Alliance and Leicester first to see what their position is? Many Thanks, Les

People often think it is the OR that closes bank accounts whereas it is actually the bank that decide that they don't want you as a customer.

The OR is only likely to freeze an account if there are funds available and they may want some of the money

Hi

I am 99% sure the Alliance & Leicester will say goodbye to the account as an un-discharged bankrupt. I opened an account there whilst i was thinking about BR - then read their literature after BR that they are not generally minded to accept unless you are discharged

The co-op (Cashminder Account) is the best account in my view and the view of so many in our position

Regards, Richard
