My husband was made bankrupt in February. We owed money to BT (in his name)who cut us off in March. I tried to get the phone line put in my name, but BT said they would only do this if we paid a £900 deposit - the amount we owe them, and would refund us in 6 months if we made all the payments. We have since tried to go with another provider and BT is refusing to hand the line over. Can anyone advise me? Thanks

In theory your huesband's debt to BT has now been cancelled by his bankruptcy - I can understand why they would be reluctant to let you have a BT Connection but they should not be able to stop you from moving to another supplier.

You need to talk to OFCOM; http://www.ofcom.org.uk/contactus/ as they should be able to help you deal with BT as they are not treating you fairly.

Things are never as bad as they seem
