Food allowance and lunches at work?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone,

We went BR on 2nd July and were allowed £400 for food for 2 adults and a 1 year old. I didn't claim anything for lunches at work, my husband was out of work at the time.

He has since found employment and I was wondering if we would be able to up our food allowance slightly in the new IPA. Also, does it seem reasonable to now put a figure in for lunches at work too and if so how much?

I'd welcome your ideas of what would seem reasonable.

Thanks,

Poodle

I'm not too sure if work lunches are allowed but you could certainly try. When you complete the new I&E don't forget to put down travelling costs and dry cleaning (£10) if your husband wears a suit.

I would see if you can increase the food to £450 as the guideline figure is £394 for 2 adults/no children and £501 for 2 adults/2 children. You are normally allowed £2 per day for children's school meals so try putting the same (£40 per month) for work meals and see what happens.

ORs tend to be a bit more generous if you are paying an IPA so you may be ok.

I'd add for clothing, meals at work, and extra fuel. This is what I did when I started working 9 extra hours... Just trying to remember how much...

ok, going from 16 hours a week to 25 hours a week, 2 adults no kids
clothing 60 to 65
Fuel 90 to 100
meals at work 30 to 35

OR didnt question this at all. Hope this helps
