Posted - 03 September 2009 : 21:29:46We were declared BR on 10th Sept 2008. (only 6 days to go) not that we are counting.... My question is.. we had private number plates and a house in joint ownership with someone else. The other party confirmed to the OR that he wanted to buy the BI in the house and our son wrote asking to buy back the number plates for the future. We have never heard anything else about this and today we have had a reminder from the DVLA that the retention is due for renewal on one of the plates. Should we contact our trustee or just let sleeping dogs lie?

Posted - 04 September 2009 : 07:57:43 Have you received anything from the OR to say that the BI has been bought by your son and the private plate is excluded from your BR?
When a car is excluded from BR then you receive a letter from the OR confirming this so I would imagine it would be the same with the plate.
The OR does have the power to revisit certain things regarding your finances/assets even after you are discharged. I think this can be up to 3 yrs after discharge.
It may be worth speaking to the OR just to confirm the status of the property and plates rather than getting a nasty surprise in the post several months down the line. You would then know the status and could put everything regarding the BR behind you.
Congrats on the discharge and make sure you print off a couple of copies of the Insolvency Register (http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/eiir/) showing you are discharged in case you need this for opening bank accounts, etc. in the future
