Posted - 14 September 2009 : 13:10:43 we are at the stages of filling in forms for bankruptcy, we are due a rebate from the tax credits people in a few days, can we use this money to fund the bancruptcy and for the deposit needed to rent a bigger house that we are interested in? are we better off moving before bancruptcy as the forms will be different for adress and utility bills.

you need the tax credits to be able to move and pay for the Br. The OR realises this and I can;t think this would be a problem as it is a relatively small amount.
Get the refund get yourself moved to the new home then complete the forms and go through Br when you are ready.
Posted - 14 September 2009 : 13:41:10 The OR would expect any rebates or additional money to be paid to your creditors so you may get a slap on the wrists for this but if it is the only way you can afford the fee and rental deposit then it's the only way.
When you move is really up to you. You may find it difficult to get a rental property once you are BR as Letting Agencies normally carry out a credit check.
