Do you think it'll be ok to open a barclays basic bank account even though they were one of my creditors ?

Hi again,

Looking at the subsequent posts, I am more inclined to say go for an account outside of Barclays and I cannot speak highly enough of the Co-op cashminder.

Good luck in whatever you decide, Richard

The debt would be included in the BR so they wouldn't legally be able to take this money from the account. You could try to open an account but they may not be too keen based on the fact that their not getting their £8k back from the credit card.

I was declared bankrupt last week but i owed them bout £8000 on a credit card. Just though if i applied for a basic account with them that they might try money from it.

If they were a creditor then it isn't likely that they would allow you an account but you could always give them a call. It's best to be completely honest with them and tell them you are declaring BR rather than not mentioning it and having the account frozen/closed at a later date.

If they don't allow you to open an account then look at the Co-op Cashminder as they are BR friendly.

Hi,

They may not like you if they are a creditor.

My experience was that I closed my accounts with Barclays (through the OR).

I opened the Co-op Cashminder account and that has been really good -the staff at the branch are good. I think most of the BRs in my city are with them too!

Good luck, Richard
