Posted - 14 September 2009 : 15:53:01 Please can someone help with this question:
At what stage does a bank consider off-setting money towards a debt? Do they pre-warn or do you literally discover that they have taken all money in an account??
I am awaiting an answer from Coop to open a cashminder account, but in the meantime I am petrified that RBS will suddenly take all my money in my current account!(RBS and MINT are both creditors). Theres no money there now, but next friday my salary will be paid in as normal. Last payday I was in the bank as it opened and took out the whole salary and was so relieved when I walked out.
I also have a basic cash card account with Barclays that I have never used but Barclay is also a creditor. Would this account be better at the moment...??
Thanks for any help!

Thanks again for your help! It really is appretiated.
I have only one DD which is my life insurance-very small amount.
I just want next Friday to come and to be standing outside the bank with all my money!! I'll relax again then...

Posted - 14 September 2009 : 16:44:08 Chances are the bank will take the money once the DD has been stopped or if there is any additional money in the account.
I stopped my DDs a couple of months before declaring BR but I had already moved my salary to another account with a different bank. The bank (Abbey) tried to take the money for the loan I had with them even though the DD had been cancelled but because the OD was maxed out and there was no money in the account it didn't go through so they charged me for an unpaid DD!
You should take out all of your salary again next Friday and then hopefully the Co-op account will be opened and you can have your salary paid into that account next time but for all intensive purposes your RBS account is dead so you shouldn't use it any more.
