Just to ad my bit about Croydon County Court, at this time of the year its normally quiet, however you do often see the Judge along with the other bankrupts at the same time, the only court I have ever known do this, of course you can insist on a private meeting but that will only extend the time there. Just rely in being there about 9.45am and leaving before 1pm

Wendellgee,
Would you be able to tell me a little more about Croydon CC for Bankruptcy?
Through my job, it is likely that I am going to bump into a few solicitors at the court who will know who I am so I am very anxious about going there.
Is it still the case that you just turn up on the day without an appointment? What sort of time did you arrive?
Also is the hearing still with a district judge? How did this go for you?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Bluebird.

Thought I'd add to this with some more up-to-date info as I filed for BR at Croydon this week.

I arrived nice and early expecting there to be a queue, but in the end there was just me and 2 other people waiting at the BR desk at 10am (there are other people in the same reception area for different things, so it felt busier than it was). Despite being 3rd of the 3 people seen, I was able to process my application within 20 mins. Following a short wait to see the judge and a 1/2 hour wait for the certificate of BR to be written up, i was out before midday.

Don't get me wrong, i'm sure some days are busier than others and even with just a couple of people waiting it was far from a pleasant experience, but the staff were all helpful and it was far from the 'bun fight' that Blackie may have experienced 2 1/2 years ago!

It is an absolute bun fight!!

You do not need to make an appointment to make yourself bankrupt at Croydon County Court. Just turn up before 10am on any weekday. However debtors begin to congregate at about 8.30 as it is first come, first served.

At 10am, the bankruptcy clerk places a signing in sheet on the counter and there is a free for all and stampede as you have to put down your name before being called in strict rotation.

It is a long process at Croydon as there are on average 25 people a day becoming bankrupt at Croydon. You also stil have to see a District Judge.

Best of luck
