Posted - 17 September 2009 : 20:51:03 this is what me and my partner should have done - get him to go bankrupt before moving in - but we didn't, to our regret - we were hoping though to put him through with bankruptcy and then to carry on muddling through with paying off my own debts and therefore keep my credit good - but 6 months after him moving in and me coming off benefits as a single mother, it has ruined us - doing everything by the book has done nothing but cause grief and we are much worse off than i have ever been on income support because now im having to lose my good credit too.
we never even got chance to get on a rug before it was pulled away from us!

Posted - 16 September 2009 : 23:03:36 Hi
there are a couple of implications.
1. the credit reference agencies will eventually link him to your address and therefore to you. To avoid the link you need to write to all 3 credit reference agencies aith a letter confirming that his finances are and should not be linked to yours in any way. A notice of disassociation.
2. Once he has moved into your place he needs to advise the OR of a change in address and financial circumstances. It is usually cheaper to live as a couple ( shared utilities, rent etc etc etc ) than as a single person so there is the possibility that he might qualify for an Income Payment Agreement based on his new disposable income.

Posted - 16 September 2009 : 21:06:18 Hi jess,wn
From what you have described there is no chance of being linked to your partners BR.
If he moves in with you and is BR, then there will be a record of his living at your address as he must keep the OR advised of his address during the BR period and the "credit score" against his name will be there - however, that is not you, so you do not need to worry as I see it.
Do you own the property?
I am sure other experts will give you any more detail based upon what you have said. I wish you well and your partner. Regards,Richard
