Hi..yet another question..

Im almost there with these forms, but Im now stuck on the question about income, my husband has a basic wage, but also has overtime, which is never guaranteed, some weeks he would do none and others he could do 5 hrs, and some weeks 10 hrs. How can I declare an 'average' take home pay? Do I just put down his basic wage or do I put down his wages + overtime, less tax etc on a 'good week'!? Im so confused and my brain is aching

aww..thanks so much, really kind of you! I will do just that, put down his basic wages then if and when its any different he will have to either call or write and tell the OR.

My husband works away and gets paid more when he does this. We put down his basic pay, as it is a guaranteed amount every month. When he gets paid at the end of the month, he will be paid extra as hes away currently. I will write to his OR and tell them the difference from his basic pay to what he was actually paid and then wait for them to tell me if they want it or not.

On my form i put down an average of the previous 12 months and made a point at the OR interview of says sometimes this is slightly more and sometimes slighly less. And they was quite happy with this.

mm...difficult one isnt it, on average right now he does about 5 - 7 hrs a week overtime, but then in a months time it might well be nothing at all and I dont want to put 7 hrs @ whatever rate he gets for overtime down on an 'average' weeks take home if thats not average..Im going round and round in circles this morning. I guess if I put down his basic wages then he informs the OR everytime its different then that will at least be honest. Thanks for your reply!

Hi there,

I tend to do very occassional overtime, but it is never usually over £100 each time. When my pay is different to the usual take home, I just inform the OR and tell them how much my overtime amount has been and they decide whether its worth their while taking a cut of it. So far, they haven't bothered as its so infrequent and the amounts not huge. I think as a rule, anything under £100 and they probably wouldn't bother with.
