Today my wife and i were made bankrupt. A few weeks ago we opened a coop cashminder account and transfered all our direct debits over to it. The confusing and worrying thing now is that the OR has told me today that i should of waited until after the bankrupcy and that he will have to freeze it. This afternoon i went into my local cooperitive bank and they told me they dont freeze the account as it is a cashminder one. So i dont know who to believe. With both of our wages going into the account this week we are getting worried.
Has anyone else had this problem? Would be grateful of any feedback,thanks. |

Hi Dean and good luck for the future, we have opened a Cashminder account and we do not go BR until late November. I did this on advice from one of the experts on this forum, hopefully we have not done the wrong thing? Please let us know how you get on,

If the bank does freeze an account, the OR usually contacts them within a few days to say they have no interest in the account.

My wife opened her cash minder account 1 month before going BR and still uses it now 4 months after going BR

I opened a Cashminder account before BR and was able to keep it open.

Thanks for the reply Richard. The weird thing was that when i tried to explain it was a cashminder account and that the coop have no problems with people who are bankrupt he said he didnt mind if i opened a new account with them, which dont make sense considering i already have one. |

Hopefully if the staff at the Co-op said it would not be frozen then you will be Ok - I believe if an account is frozen and then unfrozen then it only takes a few days - not sure if I dreampt that or saw it somewhere?!
I opened the Co-op account a few days after so there was no problem - I am sure somebody will post who knows more than me on this - good luck in your BR, Richard
