Posted - 07 November 2009 : 21:03:49 I'm not sure if I'll be there yet Mel - I've got a few things going on at the moment and I'll hopefully be able to make a decision next weekend.

Posted - 07 November 2009 : 20:26:05 The 21st is a 'frugal friends' night out in Walsall - its advertised on the iva.co.uk website, and a night for forum members to meet up and basically chat about anything and everything, people who have gone through IVA's and bankruptcy, Melanie Giles (famous on the other site, and also my brilliant boss), and myself will be there, Paul Johns will also probably be along and loads of forum members... We all chat online trhoughout the year, and its really good to meet up and see who people actually are in the flesh..
By the way, sad about the games, but at least i may get to eat a curry now!!! its in the oven anyway, just hope they come home soberish and hungry!

Posted - 07 November 2009 : 19:45:07 Hi Melanie and Skippy
We woz robbed...12 - 19 - We (Wales) were not really in the game sadly - about 5 minutes from the end if it had gone right - it could have been a draw - it did not go right and we lsot - it was 1953 that Wales last beat NZ... Do we have to wait another 56 years? - I will be 113 by then!!
I am going to watch X Factor - and I lke Afro Jamie - he is a good "performer" - he gets the audience to participate - I do not think he will be the outright winner though - I share your view about the twins!!!
I am about to re-charge my glass...
Whats this on the 21st??? Can boys go too??
Regards, Richard

Posted - 07 November 2009 : 18:45:17 Hi Housing & Skippy - yep Rugby widow again, apparently my hubby and eldest son are at the local pub and will be back for a curry at 9ish nut i guess that depends on whether Wales win or not - if they win i guess tea for me will be a bowl of cornflakes with the X Factor!!! during which i will again start shouting abuse at my telly at the lack of talent of the 'twins' who are now getting people kicked off (like last weeks female singer ) who really do have talent - if they stuck those pair on a stage with no backing singers/dancers/ fancing stage things going on and people actually got to hear the talentless pair being unabe to string a tune together let alone the lyrics perhaos they woud not vote for them ( i guess from this rant you will gather i don't particularly like them!!! I'm a Jamie Affro fan!!!
Are you frugal friending it on 21st Skippy ? Mel G and me are both going, it would be great to meet up

Posted - 07 November 2009 : 18:23:36 I agree Chertsey is a one horse town - a couple of nice pubs - I had a friend who lived there and we did the pubs on his stag night - I will go and watch if they start building a new bridge in WOT...
I used to feed the ducks and swans with my kids when my wife went to sleep after a night shift at Walton hospital!!
INXS were great - saw them twice in 1986 as one of the support bands to the late great Freddie Mercury and the "boys" - Queen were sensational - I have been to hundreds of concerts and I must say they were the best live act in the world of pop and rock. I am a fan of Roger Taylor who is a great drummer - I was a drummer once and I rate him highly as an all time good egg. If ever they need a replacement...
I think INXS at the Arena was about 1990 - again a fantastic live act - a tragedy with his death too.
If you are ever in Devon - let us know we have a spare bedroom and a swimming pool and sauna - just hope we can hang onto it!!
regards, Richard

Posted - 07 November 2009 : 17:30:56 I had tickets for INXS at Wembley Arena years ago but I couldn't go - I wish I'd gone now though.
I don't go back as far as James Hunt, although I do remember waking my dad up to tell him that Nigel Mansell had lost the world championship as his tyre had blown. It was the last race of the season and I was 10 or 11 and I thought i was being helpful - how was I to know he'd videoed it?!?!
I just love the way there are 2 temporary bridges next to each other in Walton. They are supposed to be building a new bridge next year I think, but I can't see it happening as there were objections to the very flash design.
I miss working in Walton - I work in Chertsey now and there is nothing to do, although it's nice being by the river in the summer I would like a few shops to wander round!
I envy you living in Devon - I love the West Country. As I said my nan lived in Frome, my great aunt in Wiltshire and we love going to Lyme Regis or Cornwall every year.

Posted - 07 November 2009 : 16:38:03 Hi Skippy,
Oasis are good live - I am a beatles fan so they are the next generation...! I do like Springsteen though - I was at the Wembley Arena years ago watching INXS and Sprinsteen was at the Stadium - as I walked through to the Arena he was singong Born in the USA - it sounded great - INXS were good too!! Those were the days
I have always liked F1 - I can remember James Hunt!! I have always liked fast cars - Jags, BMWs and the like - not know - I have just bought a Rover (courtesy of the OR) after my car was sold by tender - I cannot complain though!!
Yes WOT has changed - we were there from 1982 and sold our house in 2001 - we had to let it for the last few years and then when the market picked up sol;d it when it was between tenants - I was working in London a lot at that time as a consultant giving the Government advice on housing policy and we nearly moved back...wish we still had it - never mind.
We do not know anyone in the area now - our kids went to school on Walton and Weybridge.
The bridge is something else I have to say - there was talk of changing it 25 years ago - too costly and a difficult thing to do with the volume of traffic - I miss the eare - I have a friend in French St Sunbury.
Whenever we are near Walton we go there - strange really - the town centre is swish now - as I said we popped in last Monday en route back to Devon having spent 4 days with our grandaughter in Rye - the 7 hours drive was fun with an 8 year old saying..."are we nearly there yet granddad..."
Have a great weekend - this forum is very good - must say - would be nice to meet up with some - being cyber friends is strange! It is raining today like we have never seen - not sunny Devon at the moment!
Regards, Richard

Posted - 07 November 2009 : 14:01:22 Oasis do nothing for me I'm afraid! Now Bruce Springsteen, there's someone I would love to see!
I've watched F1 for year, although I've never actually been to a race - lack of money, and lack of anyone to go with! My OH watches it with me, but wouldn't pay the money to go to a race. I was pleased Jenson won (especially as he's from Frome, which is where my nan lived), and it was nice to see the new boys Brawn winning the constructors' championship.
It'll be interesting to see what happens next season with the new teams and the loss of some of the old ones. I have to admit to being a McLaren fan so I'm hoping they can carry on improving into next season, and get Kimi back in the team alongside Lewis. Once my IPA has finished I'll be renewing my Team McLaren membership!
I see Ferrari want to run a third car using Michael Schumacher - now that could be interesting!
I've lived in Staines all my life, apart from a couple of years down the road in Sunbury - I've never gone far! Staines has changed a lot over the last few years and finally has some decent shops.
I used to work in Walton and that's changed as well - I think they call it regeneration! It's got a lovely shopping centre now and I miss working there as we relocated and I now have nothing to do at lunchtimes! Walton still has that awful bridge though!

Posted - 06 November 2009 : 23:00:14 Hi again,
I think she does like the game and she may well be a rugby widow - I wish I could get a ticket for tomorrow - or afford one (a luxury) - the last time I was at Cardiff in July it was to see Oasis!! Second time I have seen them in Cardiff - I am 57 and was, by no means the oldest rocker there!!
I dod not play or watch footie - my wife does - she was in a all women team a longish time ago!!
I love F1 and was pleased with the results this year - after discharge, I hope to get to go to a few rugby games and an F1 - Monaco would be nice!!
Do you live in Staines? We used to shop there sometimes in the 80`s when we lived in Walton on Thames - was there (WOT that is) on Monday - how its changed - of course Jenson lives in St Georges Hill Weybridge! I used to wander throughj SGH before they installed the security guards!
Have a great weekend, Richard

Posted - 06 November 2009 : 22:51:01 If I remember rightly Mel is more of a rugby widow!
I'm not a rugby fan myself, it's football for me (and cricket and F1!) and tomorrow's a big day - 1st round proper of the FA Cup and my local non league team (Staines Town) have qualified and are playing Shrewsbury.
Unfortunately it's away and a lack of money means I won't be there, but I'll be there in spirit!

Posted - 06 November 2009 : 22:47:06 Thanks Skippy
So far so good - a very professional organisation that do a great deal for the cause of free advice and signposting where they are not able to assist themselves - It takes the best part of a year to be a fully certificated adviser
I am trying to put something back into society and make use of my time and without sending arrogant, my skills - there are details on their main website - have a look - they need good people!!
The game is being held at the Millenium Stadium :-
Wales v New Zealand 7 November 2009 at 5.15 pm Millennium Stadium Cardiff Invesco Perpetual Series
As I am sure you are aware Melanie is Welsh and so am I - we exchange emails about Cymru and I send her "Welsh messages" to her
Like at Welsh people male or female - Rugby runs through the blood and I wondered if she was attending - I suspect she will be if she can get tickets and has the time at the moment
Best regards to you and as always, I hope that things are going OK with you and yours, Richard x

Posted - 06 November 2009 : 22:20:31 Good luck with the training Richard, I'm sure you'll be excellent. It's something I'd like to do one day, but at the moment I haven't got the time.
I'm going to have to ask a stupid question - what match is on tomorrow?
