Posted - 08 November 2009 : 17:34:47 Had OR interview on Friday-please someone put our minds at rest! The interview for both of us lasted just over two hours but I'm not sure of the outcome. She didn't mention that we would have to pay anything, but did say they may take our car away within 3 weeks. Now she's asked for statements of money that went into our account following the sale of our home 18 months ago. Although this money has gone mainly on paying our creditors we were still heavily in debt. She asked why we didn't do something earlier rather than increase our debts trying to keep our head above water. Although most of our spending was borrowing from Peter to pay Paul there are a few household items that was paid for on credit about 7 months ago, will this go against us? She also asked what holidays we have had over the last 2 years and where did we get the money from. I have had an horrendous weekend going over and over our conversation. Is it normal practice to ask the things she asked because I can't account for most of our spending. What will happen now? -we obviously spent money that we couldn't afford to pay back but at the time I thought something would turn up.What can our creditors force the OR to do to us? Katie |

Posted - 08 November 2009 : 18:46:56 Hi Mad with worry, this is examining 101, find when was the last time a large amount of money was received and work forward through time, It is the examiners job to work out how all assets have been used and all debts incurred. Dont feel that that they think you have done anything wrong, just that all the obvious questions must be asked.

Posted - 08 November 2009 : 18:29:24 Hi Katie,
My thoughts are with you - we have all been there...
Just to make you feel better - my first interview on the day I went BR was about 2 hours and my "proper" interview about 2 weeks after by appointment lasted about 10 hours - I left the ORs office at 6.00 p. haveing arrived at 9.00 am - I was aked to provide more information again recently so may have a third interview!! (I would say that all my contact with the ORs office sine my BR (19th May) has been good) When there has been a delay to a question my wife asked about BI, they apologised to say they were very busy!!
I was asked about bank accounts - I had 7!! Nothing in them though!! Ha ha
I was asked about holidays, personal registration plates the sale of a "nice" car 2 yeara ago - My car at the time of the BR was taken away and sold by tender - I am buying one this week with the £2K allowance the OR has awarded me.
I was asked how I paid for holidays and how I paid myself (I was self employed and part PAYE.
I was asked for my books for the past two years - to show co-operation I gave him the last 4 years that showed a reduction in T/O
It feels like you are being subject to the Spanish Inquisition - but I suggest just co-operate and you will be fine. I was lucky with my main interview, he was a lawyer and I had studied law as a post graduate many years ago so we had a "common interest" - Bless him, he is young enough to be a son and said you can call me "his first name" - He said, I do not normally say that to people, I have to say I call him Mr (surname) - I think there needs to be a distance and respect on both sides.
I have said all this in the hope that you will not feel you have been singled out or grilled too much - I think what you have said was asked of you is asked of all BRs.
Try not to stress - ha ha - I should tell myself that some days!!
I am sure you will be fine - if there is a bad day or you have a question ask the forum - someone wil assist you.
My best regards, Richard xx
