Posted - 25 November 2009 : 21:14:28 Hi everyone,
I just wanted to run this by you all just in case anyone knew any more about this:
Three days after I declared bankruptcy I received a letter from the 'Bankruptcy Protection Fund Limited'. This letter looks well dodgy to me - it claims that if I have equity in my property then 'Our service will ensure that your creditors are repaid and that the bankruptcy is cancelled (their emphasis).
It's on good quality paper and looks very formal.
As I said it looks very dodgy to me - and I don't want anyone being taken in by their promises!
(Also, in the interests of fairness - if anyone proves to me that this is a good thing - and I honestly right now can't see that - then I'll retract this posting).
All the best everyone,
Average Joe http://averagejoegoesbankrupt.blogs.bankruptcyhelp.org.uk/ |

Posted - 28 November 2009 : 16:49:23 I too received a couple of letters, the first a few days into my bankruptcy, regarding keeping my house( which i dont own anyway, but rent from the council),and the second a few days ago regarding reclaiming back charges on loans and credit cards now the accounts are closed. That did look ok on paper, but i decided i wouldn't risk it, so binned it. They were going to take 20% of any refund anyway!! |

Posted - 28 November 2009 : 12:36:08 Ignore all of these sort of letters. All they want is to make money from you.
They trawl the register and will contact everyone who is BR. The people in an IVA have a similar sort of thing.
Don't even entertain them - they couldn't care less about you.

Posted - 27 November 2009 : 01:51:11 that is all they are after Equity ... i think they are realistically looking for people who have been made BR by a creditors petition not a debtors petition, genaerally if people had equity in their property enough to clear their debts they would do something with it and not necessarily go down the BR road

Posted - 26 November 2009 : 22:13:18 I even had one guy knock the door and say that he had just seen someone else in the area and thought he would come and see me. He soon got put off once he found i didnt have any equity on the house. |

Posted - 26 November 2009 : 20:44:33 Hi all,
I received just one letter (I think from this firm) - However, I threw it away and did not hear again.
This type of firm does trawl the London Gazette and Stubbs Gazette they send letters hoping to hook up and get some business.
As debtinfo has said they may well be kosher - but best ignored - unless you want to see what they could do for you???
I mentioned it to my examiner and he said, best ignored - he hinted that I may get a few - in the event just the one and they did not bother me again

Posted - 26 November 2009 : 20:39:18 Hi, this is a legit company and they do get some bankruptcies anulled (for a fee of course). Whether you agree with their ethics is a different matter, as has been said they trawl the insolvency register and send leters advertising their services to as many bankrupts as possible regardless of whether their services are appropriate |

Posted - 25 November 2009 : 22:41:21 ditto to Skippy these people are trawling the Insolvency register for business and the letter deserves to be filed in the bin

Posted - 25 November 2009 : 22:24:41 I had something along those lines, telling me I could release the equity from my house and have my BR annulled. One problem with that theory - I don't own a house!
Treat it with the contempt it deserves and bin it!

Posted - 25 November 2009 : 21:30:47 Hi Average Joe, I too received similar a few days after my br in the Spring. Best place for these letters is in the bin. They get your name and address from the Insolvency Register and target you at a particularly vulnerable time, just after BR, when if people may be thinking they were being offered "a way out". You are right to warn people and there have been posts over time regarding these letters but not recently so thanks for the reminder. I will let a friend of mine know who has recently gone BR. |
