I now live abroad, but was made bankrupt in the UK on Friday the 13th of November.

I have 2 questions:

I have been sent a document to sign from the Official Receiver, stating that I have received a copy of the bankruptcy order. I have no such document. Who should send me this? The attorney who represented me in the UK? The OR?

Secondly - I am still receiving letters and statements from my creditors in the UK. These were sent days or weeks after my bankruptcy date. When can I expect these to cease?

Thanks for any help.

You would normally receive the BR order on the day you are declared BR by the BR clerk in the court so the person who represented you should have this.

The letters stop once the OR has contacted your creditors but this can take a while as they are so busy. For me they stopped about 3 months after declaring BR. Just put them to one side and ignore them. I kept mine in case there were problems with creditors accepting that they had to deal with the OR rather than with me and they I could send them to the OR to show that the creditors were causing problems.

I would suggest that you contact whoever represented you to see if they sent a copy of the order to you as I imagine it would have been given to them. Check the Insolvency Register to make sure you are on there.

It does sometimes take time for the creditor letters to cease, but I wouldn't worry about them as they can do nothing to you. You could write to them to inform them that you are now bankrupt.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time
