Used to post here pre BR and then a few post BR but have not been back for a while - trying to put all of it behind me so to speak...hence new user ID - can't remember the old one!
On a posative note after going BR my life has been on the up and up - no money worries until now - reatively easy OR interview and the OR has not been on my case at all.
However, as I continued to work for myself I've found trade worse and worse etc - had to sign on on JSA with Housing benefit - total income is now £144 a week and outgoings close to £200 - key issue is rent @ £110 per week leaving only £34 of which council tax is £6, Gas/Electric/Water £20 Insurance £5...no need to go on you can see the math as in there I've still not allowed for food etc.
Struggling to move as its difficult enough to find accom when you are DSS but DSS+BR - bad combination and in reality @ £80 per week Housing Benefit what can you get for £320 - also have my kids who stay 1/2 the week but get no funds from ex.
I realise this is not the place to air Benefit questions but does any member have any input, info or direction on this - I've spoken to JCP & HB and council tax (of which I'm £240 in arrears) but all they say is "thats what the government says you can live off!" like to see an MP try!!!
All help very much appriciated

Posted - 12 January 2010 : 15:10:32 If that is what te Housing benefit is, then I can't see it being changed for individual cases BUT I would go & see your MP if I were you at his/her surgery & put it to him/her. You could be pleasantly surprised by the results!!! Also, have you filled in the form to see if you can be exempt from paying council tax?
