I say think, as we have not received anything in writing yet from the OR..but according to the insolvency website (which I check daily..sad I Know) when I checked on saturday it said we had both been discharged early on 1st Feb....how long til we get it in writing from the OR???

Relieved, happy are not the words..we've had this black cloud over us for the last few years following losing well paid jobs, our journey started in Dec 07 where we decided enough was enough and went to Melanie Giles of philip Gill and Jones Giles...who in July 08 secured our IVA (had the northern rock together mortgage that caused the delay)...unfortunately I was then made redundant for the 3rd time meaning we could no longer afford the IVA...Melanie and her team were fantastic throughout and eventually and unfortunately after securing another job on a lower salary, our IVA failed, leaving us know choice other than bankruptcy...the other Melanie, who works for Jones Giles and on here lots....again was fantastic and very helpful with us when looking at the bankruptcy route, giving us lots of help and guidance..it was invaluable melanie..thank you.

We took the plunge and went Bankrupt 20 July 09..........it was no where near as bad as we thought for anyone still considering it. We tried to do the right thing with the IVA but it was not meant to be.

We received the ED questionnaire at beginning of December which I quickly completed and returned. WE were very lucky enough to keep our house, and bought the BI which went through in November for a £1 each....so all in all we were bankrupt for just over 6 months. WE know we have been very lucky to get the early discharge but at the same time we have been through the mill with the IVA first as I know many of us have on here..........for the first time in a very long time there are no clouds hanging around us just sunny fluffy ones :-) I'm still pinching myself as I type. My husband said until we get it in writing he daren't celebrate or believe it is true.

Good luck to everyone else...this forum and the IVA forum beforehand have been our strength, our support. Thank you to everyone who has ever given us advice and support over the last couple of years.

With much love and appreciation

Hi wellerchic sorry for late reply...we had about £5k negative equity plus a £6k penalty clause in our mortgage if we stopped it within the fixed rate term...hence we bought the BI for a £1 each.

JB6..yes that was all we had a new I & e to complete and have never heard anything since...only the insolvency register...I've printed lots of copies showing our discharge.

Good luck everyone xx

Congratulations on your Early Discharge

When you bought the BI did you have a lot of Neg Equity in the property. At the moment mine is -£12,000.

Thank you for all your replies...it's weird having nothing in writing...will print off the proof in that case. I take it, it is usual for not hearing anymore from OR?

Neither of us had an IPA, just NT tax code for my hubby. Does this mean I can earn more now technically....win the lottery (I wish) etc etc

Also other than initial chat about life insurance covering mortage in event of death..we have never heard anything back...is this still an asset? We were told at OR interview we may have to buy it back either for £50 or £50 EACH But have never heard anything since...should we be worried?

Congrats on the ED. You won't necessarily get anything from the OR as I didn't for my ED and only found out via the Register as you did.

Remember to print off a couple of copies of the Register showing you are discharged for proof and if you want to clean up your credit file have a look at the following link - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=677875

I don't think you do get anything else, but could be wrong.

Sounds as though you have ED to and congratulations.

If you have an IPA, obviously this will continue until the end of the three years.

Buckle your seat belt Dorothy, 'cos Kansas is going bye bye.
