Posted - 30 January 2010 : 16:51:47 Hi i used to have a morgage with Northern Rock the dreaded together morgage, and i wasnt stupid or greedy, i had a really good job at the time and could easily make the payments but i didnt have a deposit saved. Shortly after i got made redundent, but managed to survive until the end of the morgage. Due to Northern rocks hi interest rates i was forced to move my morgage to cheltenham and gloucester, but they wouldnt take on the unsecured part of the together morgage. So now i have a morgage with c&g 100% and i still am paying the unsecured part of northern rock 30K over 30yrs interest only £330 a month!!! because they doubled the interest. I have spoke to them to try and get help but they wont do anything about it they have told me to get a loan with someone else, but i cant no one in their right mind would lend me this amount of money with the debt i now have and pretty much no equity, so im stuck with this huge unsecured debt for many years and lots of interest! I cant go through debt management as my partner is in the police force and this doesnt go down well when vetted yearly... is there anything i can do, especially as the loan is unsecured? thank you look forward to your responce. |

Posted - 31 January 2010 : 12:02:10 Hi Robert.ty
If your partner is in one of the specialised squads yes they will vet him, if he is run of the mill CID , Uniform or traffic, it is unlikely that they will vet him.
The police regs are quite tight on BR and debts, however they would much rather that he / you took appropriate steps to manage or control the debts rather than allowing them to escalate. getting another loan to clear another loan is unfortuantly a vicious downwards circle.
The federation are very helpful, they will refer your partner on to one of two companies, one of those companies posts on this forum. (paul @ reviva). they have helped lots of police officers not only with BR but all aspects of debt solutions
if you do enter in to a DMP, it is unlikely that the force would see this as a negative step.
The force would obviously want to check that the debt is not caused by any form of addiction.
regards Richard

Posted - 30 January 2010 : 17:08:26 Hi,
Your debts will not reflect on your partner's position with the police force. As far as I know, you do not get vetted yearly, at least the force I work for doesn't do that.
I suggest that you need to speak to a professional. I would recommend visiting www.iva.com for a list of companies and reviews. Give one or two of them a ring, explain the circumstances and you will receive free and impartial advice as to all the options to you.
Buckle your seat belt Dorothy, 'cos Kansas is going bye bye.
