I’m in my forties, have a wonderful wife and family, a good job and a bunch of credit cards that I can’t pay. We never had expensive holidays and I’ve never had a Jag in the drive; credit bought food, not luxuries. All the same, like many thousands of my countrymen, I’m going bankrupt and I thought I’d tell you about it.

My blog is at: http://averagejoegoesbankrupt.blogs.bankruptcyhelp.org.uk/

I went bankrupt yesterday - 17th. November, 2009. I hope my blog helps others about to go through the process of bankruptcy.

Yep, the sigh of relief when leaving court is something you will never forget. And the pleasure in telling your creditors that you are BR is also nice

Once you have the OR's interview and get any IPA set up, if need be, then you probably won't hear anything until the (early) discharge and you can really start to build you life up again.

Thanks, yes the relief I felt on leaving the court was tangible. I still haven't heard form the Official Reciever, I'm eager to get things moving along, but my life is already comepletely different to even a few days ago!

I'm remind of the quote - 'When you are in a hole, stop digging!' - and I feel like I'm on my way back out.

Thanks for posting this Joe, I'll be following along as you go through the initial stages of BR. The description of the court will put a lot of people at ease as this is the most worrying thing for most people. People think they will be looked down upon and judged by the BR Clerk, Judge and other staff but that really isn't the case.

Thanks friend, I appreciate your comment. When I first realised that I was going to go bankrupt it scared the absolute living daylights out of me. I did a lot of research and found very few descriptions of what to actually expect, but what I *did* find (e.g. Piggy Bankrupt) helped calm my nerves because I realised that what I was most afraid of was the unknown. I vowed then and there that as I went through the whole process of bankruptcy I would attempt to write down my experiences and my feelings - with the intention that if it helped one single individual in the same boat then it was all worthwhile. Obviously for me this is all early days - I've been bankrupt for all of 33 hours as I write this! Already though I have many more things to go in the blog - tonight I called all my debtors (all banks, etc) and quite enjoyed giving them details of my bankruptcy because it means I will get the use of my home phone back! All this will go in the blog soon. I hope I can take this all the way through to the other side so that I can help others understand what happens, and quell as many fears as I can. I hope it helps. All the best, Joe.
