Hi, I am going to go bankrupt and have already opened a new bank acc for my wages to go into and priority bills (rent etc) to come out of. Do I still need to log this on the bankrupcy paperwork? I know they will freeze my old bank account, will they freeze my new one as well? If so how am I going to pay my rent etc.
Thanks.

Hi there gigglingdi, i was advised this afternoon by the OR that they advise the bank what to do then its up to them, if your wages are going in etc any money in them, will be frozen then sent to you, if you have things like debit cards with it or an overdraft the bank will be advised to close it....but if you have an account basic no cheques or no overdraft and no debit cards they advise them that you have gone bankrupt, leaving the decision with your bank if it doesnt mind having bankrupts with accounts, your money (wages) and direct debits etc shall be fine, but be sure, find out by making the call, and if your still not satisfied take your money out you have in there . Nationwide is one im told doesnt mind, phone your bank and ask how or if they allow bankrupts to hold an account if not go to Nationwide for a basic account....im not a professional on this subject so make the calls hope i helped you here Cheers Darren!

hello gigglingdi and welcome. After you have petitioned successfully for bankruptcy the OR notifys all the banks you have listed on the application. The bank then decides what action to take regarding your account. Contact the bank where you just opened the account and ask do they allow bankrupts to open an account. You can also read the terms and conditions of the bank.

You should have opened the bank account after the District Judge has signed your application. You do have to list it, but state to the OR you have your wages paid into it.

Please contact the bank asap regarding bankrupts having an account.
You may have to open an account with another bank if the bank does not allow undischarged bankrupts. As for your rent, tell the landlord, you are filing for bankruptcy and the rent will be late because you are changing banks. The landlord may be informed by the OR anyway as the OR has to verify what you pay for rent and if you are in arrears. Some ORs do and some ORs don't inform landlords. Better for the landlord to hear it from you.

Please read your Assured Tenancy Agreement to see if you may have to move because of your bankruptcy. If you live in council housing not a problem, but with a private landlord there may be a problem. However, as long as you've been paying your rent in a timely manner and keeping the property tidy there should not be any concerns.

Take care

I am not a bankruptcy professional. I am someone who has petitioned for one.

All I have left is my sense of humour.
