Posted - 07 February 2008 : 12:41:37 Hi all i have a question i hope someone will be able to answer for me i owe money for my council tax the bailiffs are saying if i don't pay they will go back to the council with the liability order to report i have failed to pay which will result in one of the following
the courts to have me committed to prison.
commence court proceedings to have me declared bankrupt.
is there anyway i can tell the courts that i want to go bankrupt instead of jail as this is what i want to do i cant get the £475 to go bankrupt myself i don't think they can send my to jail because my wife works and i look after our 2 year old child so sending me to jail would just cause more problems as my wife would have to stop working and then we would have no money coming in at all i really don't know what to do so if anybody can help it would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards Stefan

The last person to reply (johny) is right. Council tax debts will not be written off. If you don't want jail, make arrangements to pay. Having said that get in touch with CAB for difinitve answer.
Best of luck

Posted - 08 February 2008 : 06:04:41 I would suggest that you get into some form of payment plan with your tax arrears.
Even if you go bankrupt, my understanding is, that those debts are not written off in BR.
