Very worried about freezing of account. Pre IVA my OH and i opened the coop cashminder and have been very happy. But now we are having to file for bankruptcy i am nervous, i hear that coop and barclays are the only accounts open to BR and we cant get barclays (creditor)All of our direct debits and wages go through the cashminder and i am worrying about direct debits being paid out when this account gets frozen, (they are staggered through the month) i have been looking at a date to file and it seems sensible to file day after mortgage and secured loan goes out (15th next month)but what happens to the other commitments, also my husband will get paid on the 25th and myself on the 30th, these wages are obviously for the following months commitments. help!

There are 2 accounts you can definitely open after bankruptcy:
Barclays cash card account and the Co-Op Cashminder accounts.

Hi Rollercoaster,

I agree with Melanie. If you speak to your bank prior to the BR (as long as uyou don't owe them any money), I've heard a few instances where the bank has not frozen the account so you can carry on, business as usual.

I would personally have a word with your bank prior to filing to see what policy they have, and how they will handle being advised of your bankrutpcy. Forewarned is forearmed, and you may be pleasantly suprised how supportive they can actually be if you are good customers.

For an informal chat about any financial difficulties, or advice as to the options available, I can be contacted via my website - www.melaniegiles.com
